Ring light app purchases: what to check before you download
Halora is free to download. On iOS, Halora Pro offers a monthly subscription or Lifetime as a one-time purchase. Android currently offers a one-time purchase. The App Store page lists purchase options before you download. Here is what to check.
How to spot a subscription on the App Store page
- Look at the Get button. A note that the app offers In-App Purchases means it sells something inside the app. On its own, that does not mean a subscription.
- Open In-App Purchases under Information. Further down the page, the App Store lists the purchases with their prices. Names with weekly, monthly or yearly usually mean a subscription. Names with lifetime or one-time usually mean a single payment.
- Read the small print on the paywall. A free trial that turns into a subscription has to say so, together with the price that follows. App Store subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Check what you already pay for. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Every active App Store subscription is listed there, and you can cancel it in the same place.
The checklist
Price is only one question. These are the ones that decide whether a ring light app is still useful after the first week.
- One-time purchase or subscription? A subscription renews until you cancel it, so check the renewal period and where to cancel.
- What does the free version include? Some apps show the light and lock everything else.
- Is an account required? A light should not need a login.
- Are there ads? An ad that covers the screen also covers your light.
- Does it work in the dark? That is when you need it, so try it in a dark room first.
- Does video record sound? Check before you film something you want to keep.
- How fast can you open it? A Control Center button or a Lock Screen widget saves the most taps.
- Where do your photos go? Your own Photos library is the answer you want.

Which plan fits
Try the free features first. If you need the extra features for a single shoot or a short trip, one month can be enough. If you use them every day, compare a longer plan with a one-time purchase. Check the price, renewal period and free features against how you plan to use the app.
